AVIAN FLU
by Dr. R.R.S.CHANDRAVANSHI on Feb 20, 2006 09:10 PM

Eating chicken is safe provided it is cooked well.

Human mortality in India is not a matter of botheration since virus scurmbling is not likely in

the thin population of pigs, however, mortality in poultrty can be cause of concern. I strogly recommend

the Govt of India that infected flocks must be immediately erradicated with appropriate disposal, complete quarrantine of the affected region should be

mandatory involving cessation of movement of birds, chicks, feed poultry-related personnel except designated officials, an extensive campaign

will be required to ring-immunize with DIVA-compliant H5N2 or N3 vaccine of USDA or EU equivalent standards of purity and efficacy.

Anything less would be irresponsible and will lead to the devestation of the Industry in India and the possibility of human cases.
