Judiciary - above law ?
by Madhu Mohan on Feb 13, 2006 12:22 PM

The last sentence of Ms.Jaisingh's article, I felt, was very close to the mark. Of late, the pronouncements and statements from the bench have left a bad taste in the mouth and one is led to think that the members of the judiciary perhaps feel themselves above the very law that they are expected to administer. They should keep in mind that the entire nation - especially in the case of the higher judiciary like the Supreme Court - look up to their words and as such they ought to exercise more care and wisdon in their choice and use of language. While the learned judges have been very free in the use of choice language when delivering sweeping and scathing judgements particularly against the political establishment, would they do the same when overturning some of the judgements of the lower courts ? I bet not !!
