The author, though speaking truth about ecology and loss of agricultural land, is highly biased and short sighted. The accusations on a very reputed group like Tatas do not hold any kind of ground. It is such discouragement by these so-called pro-poor that West-Bengal(WB) lost private industries and sank into horrors of mass unemployment, day-to-day strikes and lack of growth. Nobody wants to enter such a state where the focus is less on the matter at hand, that is earning people bread and butter, and more on issues concerning the larger public and future trends, causing political influence and approach in matters that are better without.
Industrialization has its own costs, private firms require profit, and people need employment and better quality of life. It is upto people to decide whether the way they are, is better, or industrialization should be given a chance.
Tatas entry is much required by WB, as it only, will open door for further larger investments, and thus Tatas also are taking a risk of name and money. Stakes are on both sides. It requires great planning and experience to enter into such waters, so some noises are bound to come from unprepared.
