officials are wrong, but so does the family
by Dinesh Madne on Dec 21, 2006 10:02 AM

Wait. What are we talking about.

First the family forgets Visa and all imp travel docs. A family who is staying in US for long and travels to India freq will certainly keep all travel docs together. Every Indian in US knows, if you are travelling to India, since the day you book your tickets, you keep all your tickets, passports and visas in ONE PLACE. So wasn't it the mistake of these people who forgot their visa.

Second, Immigration officers did not allow a transit visa. Well, they did a mistake on the Humanity Grounds. But did they do anything wrong legally? Did the family have all docs to make sure that the officials provide a visa. I know, Indian Immigration officers go crazy when they see NRIs. But this story is not a proof of that.

Third, the family says they were allowed 45 mins only to get the fax. I think that is sufficient time. BUT wait, the article also says they were back on the flight within 2 hrs of landing in India. So what was it ... 45 mins or 2 hrs?

And Fourth, if mr Vijay feels ashamed of being an Indian for some stupid mistake of immigration officers, then I would say he doesnt deserve to be an Indian.
