What is wrong in this deportation ?
by VG from London on Jan 04, 2007 04:31 PM

Please note, the deportation was of American citizens and not of NRIs. Rediff, please get your facts correct. The kids are deported since they are american citizens and do not have a visa to travel to India. It is incidental that their parents (who are Indian nationals) had to go back with the kids.

I am sure any Indian would have been given the same treatment if they would forgotten to take American visas before travelling to America. Mr. Vijay is referring to a French national being given a transit visa. For all we know, the circumstances might have been different.

In 2001, my client, a white foreign national was refused entry into India since he did not possess an Indian visa. In case of Mr. Vijay's family, I would say that the officials were perfectly just and were doing their job.

It is with regret, may I say that NRIs are the worst culprits when it comes to being ambassadors of our country. They would take the slightest of opportunities to portray native Indians in black.

Giving entry on humanitarian grounds is not the job of the immigration officials at the airport.
