Just by taking out morchas and burning trains and asking for more and more reservations , the Dalits are not going to progress. As someone who does not believe in caste and wants equality and justice for all, it is time the Dalit youth look at problems within their community, Alcoholism,the status of women, large families, illiteracy , these are the major problems they have. the reservations have benefitted only thhe creamy vocal layer of the Dalits, the real poor amongst them have remained poor even after 60 years of independence. The dalit leaders have vested inerests, what have they done for their own people. Sahu Maharaj, Mahatma Gandhi, were not Dalits but they did more for them. The politics of confrontation does not work in the 21 st century. Buddha was a person of peace. He advocated non violence. It is time the Dalit youth searched for the BUDDHA within themselves.
