Culture Clash

The author has made a traditional error. He blames the urban upper caste middle class for being biased against the dalits. Sorry in modern urban India , no one has time to look at caste etc. At the work level people are only interested in how well you work - irrespective of your surname, and at the social level, people are only interested in your soft skills (like having a modern outlook and speaking well etc). If you have zero work skills and are a villager type person , then you could be from the highest caste & no one in modern India could care 2 bits about you. On the other hand if you are a good worker & are a modern person - then you fit in everywhere, even if by caste you are a dalit or brahmin. City Dwellers dont even know the names of all the Gods, forget knowing about finer details like caste etc. In fact people who tom-tom about being brahmins etc are thought to be living in another world. A part of (modern) India has moved on to the next century where caste does not matter, and another part with the likes of Mayawati & her brigade are keen to drag India back to ancient rural india - where only caste matters. SAD SAD SAD !
