re: vande mataram controversy
by Sridhar on Aug 25, 2006 09:19 PM

Hi all,

Though Vande mataramis beautiful, it is in sanskrit and i bet most Indians do not understand what the verse means (unless they are reading an english or vernacular translation). How many can recite the song beyond:

"vande mataram

sujalam suphalam malayaja sheetalam

sashya shyamalam mataram"

Sare jahan sey accha is equally poetic and brings the best of Allama Iqbal. I will post the full poem of sarey jahan sey in my next post.
