People flock to Mahim beach
by Sundarraj Kaushik on Aug 19, 2006 04:52 PM

Should not the BMC be alarmed by its findings at the Mahim beach. They have found that the water is not potable and low in salinity. The explanation for low salinity being proposed is that the ground water could be leaking into the sea via cracks in the rocks in the sea bed. A very plausible explanation. But does the BMC wonder as to why despite such a high content of ground water seeping into the sea water the overall water is not potable? If this is true then how contaminated is the sea water? Should not the BMC be doing something about it?
