I totally agree with you. I think the whole idea of the war was perhaps to unite India from Gandhara (Afghanistan - Kandahar) in the West to Pragjyothisha (Asam). Krishna, the statesman, warrior, and strategist might have believed the new India will remain united under the Five Pandavas who were very attached to each other.
