Perhaps she's different, but the mindset of the Indian police has changed little from the time of the British Raj, whose only function was to protect the govt against the native people, rather than to serve and protect them. Cops are the real mafia - craven criminals shaking down people for bribes, even for regsitering an FIR - they still behave as imperious ghoons of corrupt netas, accountable to no one - a law unto themselves.
