Farewell Prof Warrier!
by Harikumar varma on Apr 29, 2006 04:17 PM

A very thoughtful effort by Rajeev to give the issue a larger perspective with shades from other parts of the country as well. Rajan's death, subsequent political events, the fight of Eachara Warrier, etc. were adequately covered in the vernacular press. However, the truth never came out is due to the fact that the political and administrative functions colluded to keep it away from the public, and the weak judicial system failed once again to deliver justice. It's a systemic failure of the type of democratic system we follow wherein accountability can be passed easily back and forth. The case of Eachara Warrier is touching since it involves the death of his only son, but there are hundreds and thousands of such people among us, who have been fighting for their rightful things, and who spend decades in court rooms. There may not be a single answer to this, but we deserve a much better version of democracy with definite accountability to each who are part of the system. Let us hope that the current economic revolution, with a more powerful middle-class would help. And individually we too take our parts seriously in building such a system!
