Naxalism
by Hem Raj Jain on Apr 14, 2006 05:00 PM

Sub:- Prime Minister raising false alarms on Naxalism.

Dear Sir

This refers to Dr. Manmohan Singhs media statement dated April 13, 2006 at the conclave of Chief Ministers and representatives of 13 Naxal hit States, which make up over one fourth of Indias area, that - Problem of Naxalism (a variant of Communism) is the single biggest internal security challenge ever faced by India.

No body can take exception to Manmohans anxiety and need to tone up State administration / police with Centers assistance in a routine way to face the threat of wide spread violence unleashed by these Naxalites. But such alarms unnecessarily demoralizes the nation especially when its effective remedy has already been put in place.

Every Indian knows that not only this problem of Naxalites but also most of the other chronic myriad problems of India like communalism, castism, mass poverty, mal-administration etc will be the thing of the past once National Rural Employment Guarantee Program (NREGP) started from February 2006 is implemented efficiently and at a full fledged scale which will be around next Parliamentary elections in 2009.

But it seems that Manmohan, a renowned economist in his own right, has realized that

(i)- Full fledged NREGP, though politically imperative, is not an easy task as it will annually require extra approximately Rupees 10 Trillion (almost 30 % of Indias present GDP) to accommodate 200 Million unskilled labors which will sustain 500 million and which is 50% of Indias population (including children and non working aged parents of these labors).

(ii)- Efficient Implementation of full fledged NREGP is impossible without dedicated party organizational net work spread all over India and which Manmohans political party Congress or its allies pathetically lacks.

Hence Manmohan aught to concentrate more on full fledged NREGP than scaring the nation by his needless over reactions on Naxal menace.
