''Nuclear Puzzle''
by K Sengupta on Apr 08, 2006 10:32 PM

I refer to the article Senior US lawmakers to travel to India for nuclear talks.

Having regard to the dynamics of various lobbies in the United States, the proposed visit of the US in indeed significant insofar as the said visit would provide both sides with a free and frank interchange of views while formulating a way out of the nuclear puzzle, which ostensibly has become a determinant in defining future Indo-US ties. While addressing the calculus of the plethora of concerns of the US and its various lobbies vis-à-vis Indias energy concerns, the Indian Government and Indian Lawmakers should strongly stress Indias sovereign right to pursue an independent foreign policy and should strongly emphasize its right to explore alternative avenues of its energy requirements, whether nuclear or otherwise although policies corresponding to some of the said avenues may be at direct variance with that of the US.
