Violence mars MCD sealing drive
by R.Soma Varma on Apr 02, 2006 07:02 PM

Sir,
Violation of building and zonal bylaws are rampant in every city today with the connivance of the officials and influential politicians of the area. Probably most of the news paper readers know how Bangalore has grown haphazardly. No body bothers about Floor Area Ratios or minimum set offs. Contractors, Engineers, administrators, politicans etal, are in collusion to dip their hands into the spoils of the so called 'development',.
I wish the supreme court rule is made binding on all the A and B class cities to start with in all the states.
In fact instead of demolishing and destroying wealth the authorities must take over such buildings without paying any copensation, jail all the perpetrators, modify and put such violated properties to use and or charge penal rents ranging from 3 to 6 times or more of the prevailing market rent of the loclity per month, so long as the violations exist, thus earning good revenue for further development or amenities to the general public
