Designing intelligently for development
by Nits on Oct 13, 2005 07:58 PM

West Bengal has very high population density and equally diverse ecology. Intensive industrialisation is the only option to provide large-scale employment while relieving land pressures. Development can be defined as increasing the total land value of the state, industrialisation appreciates it far better.

The trouble for Communists is that the definition of industry has changed so much since Marx-Engel and others wrote their earth-shaking mumbo-jumbo. The service sectors, electronics and mass media, computers and IT, knowledge and science-based sectors were not part of any of their conceptions. Their 'retro-fitting' approaches akin to convoluted fitment efforts on 'creation theories' of Bibliophile may have good intents but are unlikely to make a winner out of West Bengal.
