Greetings Shobha. Yes.. It is Chennai and it is 2005. But, it doesn't mean that because it is modern era, we have to adopt the western culture & life style.
Would do you write such an article and stay cool if it were your teenage daughter kissing an unknown guy (she calls her boyfriend)?
There is nothing wrong in getting a little close with that special person and enjoying the togetherness without getting physical. But, it has to be only part of a committed relationship..the one that is committed for life! Simply because, we Indians.. all of us.. strongly believe that there are some special things that you save in life meant ONLY for that one special person and not for any one else. On the other hand, if some one believes that those special things can be shared with more than one person, then he/she is choosing to live like animals or like a whore. If you put yourself in those shoes and imagine you are confronted with such situation with your special person - you would understand.
In Tamil culture, we have a word 'Karpu' that aptly describes this core value. And, do you know how much it means to us..we value it even more than our own life. So, big brother is mostly right.
