Chennai-A Big Orthodox Village
by Devendra on Mar 16, 2006 03:41 PM

I tend to agree with the writer, except that in some cases she has gone overboard.

However, lets accept the fact that Chennai trys to show that it is very conservative. But in my opinion thats a facade that is being maintained. I think this is a place where, very often, people have mistresses and it is looked as a symbol of Status.

Due to this conservative outlook, i guess, this is the place where you find homosexuality very common. B'coz boys are not allowed to meet girls openly. And then they turn to find somone of similar sex. If u need a proof, just go to any of chennai chatrooms in Yahoo chat. It's full of homosexuals and its very very sickening.

Also, due to such attitude of society and the BIG BROTHER... there are lot of discreet relationships in this city.

This is a place where liquor is sold only through TASMAC shops. You don't have decent Bar n Restaurents, which middle class can afford to visit. There are only high class hotels where you have attached bars.Thats the reason you will find people drinking on the streets in front of TASMAC shops,Or else they will drink in a place which is beside the shop in utmost unhygenic conditions.

God save Chennai
