Death Penalty to Abu Salem
by kanaka durga on Nov 13, 2005 06:31 PM

I would only like to know whether death penalty can be applied selectively? How come the perpetrators of rape and murder of muslim women and young children in Bhagalpur,Bombay,Meerut,UP,Gujrat and many more such riots are still roaming free in India while questions are being raised as to whether or not death penalty is to be awarded to salem. Why is not death penalty being awarded to those who instigated the riots of 1993 and those who actually were involved in it.What about those who demolised the historic mosque at Ayodhya? The monorities have already lost confidence in the police and the beuraucacy.I hope and pray that they donot loose hope in our judicial system as well.

I see the bombay blasts as a retaliation to the demolition of the mosque and the crimes committed by the police and the hindu fundamentalists against the innocent muslims of bombay and elsewhere at that time and nothing more than that.

If at all he is to be tried and awarded death penalty it should be for the crimes in which he was involved before the blasts. If he is awarded death penalty for the bombay blasts selectively I would consider it a travesty of justice.
