Advani's statements have been grossly misinterpreted. Advani didnt mean or say that jinnah was personally a secular guy. He said that even jinnah realised and wanted pakistan to be a secular state after the formation of pakistan. Advani wanted to advocate that Jinnah wanted apkistani people to be secular. That in no way suggests that Jinnah was secular. As rightly pointed out in the article, Jinnah didnt want the hardcore islamic forces to run the govt of pakistan , and then he realised that to keep them at bay, he must have a secular pakistan. so there lies the reasonabiility of his statement. That in no way undermines his previous communal thinking wher he instigated riots and created the great divide between hindus and muslims. besides its well known that Jinnah's activities were primarily driven for the gratifications of his personal ambitions rather than of any idealogues he had.
