Right Direction
by Partha sarathy on Jun 09, 2005 07:44 AM

For the admission fiasco in Tamilnadu, Anna University must own its responsibility as it started behaving more as a BIG Brother than that of a mature Elder Brother. With its clumsy ways of conducting entrance exams, admissions, teaching with persons with lower qualifications and evaluation goof ups (Answer Paper Chase Model), Anna University went about discreditng BITS Pilani doyen of industry university linkages in India which was doing for over thirty years a higher secondary marks normalized (with respective to board topper percentage) based admissions. The Government in 2004 throttled BITS, Pilani to do admisison by an
entrance exam of the AIEEE kind. BITS took a bold stand and announced for2005 a BITSAT entrance exam based on GRE model spread over two months. Amma's Anna University has gone to what BITS Pilani was doing for the past thirty years. Possible that Anna University will pick up the BITSAT model after another thirty years. It does not matter in various surveys where an institution stands but what matters is in which direction the institution is moving. BITS Pilani is in the right direction and hopefully Anna university will change direction for good!!
