Mumbai limping back to normalcy
by s subramanyan on Jul 29, 2005 06:19 AM

The Mumbai flood should teach us a few hard lessons. We are living in a difficult world situation. The floods and the failure of rail transport has shown how things could go beyond us all. Imagine 8 lakh people daily travel in trains to and fro their offices-home moving north-south-north. If we cannot change this travel pattern, could we not atleast decentralise activity. Bandra-Kural complex project should be hastened and most of the commercial centres shoiuld be shifted here. The load on train traffic could reduce perhaps.

Instead of a sea bridge between Nava Sheva and Sewree and Worli-Bandra sea lane and a host of projects wholly catering to south Mumbai, will the state government concentrate on better drainage, sanitation and transport for suburbs. Forget for a swhile Shanghai and Singapore. Do something for the poor Mumbaikars.
