Mumbai under water
by S. Hariharan on Jul 28, 2005 12:21 PM

My wife was going from Hyd.Mumbai Express on 25th27th night and the train passed Lonavala and other two more stations and came to a halt. She was in the sleeper compartment. Cell phone holders were hesitant to part with their phones which have unlimited incoming calls and very limited outgoing calls {thanks to the great schemes of the cell operators} and recharging facilities confined A.C. coaches only, my wife managed to send as sms to my daughter-in-law at Hyderabad. The person at Dar to receive my wife spent the whole afternoon and night in the platform and returned to have a snap and wash in the morning and then again go to Dadar and wait. I managed to send an sms {through Hyderbad} giving a contact number at Poone. On 27th morning may be around 10 am. the train moved backwards and came to a station and halted. With a small group in the compartment she got down there and managed to engage a cab and reached sion around 8.p.m. A stationary train may have to switch of fan and electricity when the stoppage for hours together. Anyway there is a sigh of relief for many people and a great loss to Cellphone operators and BSNL.
