Flattening the great divide
by sachin nair on Jul 15, 2005 09:28 AM

Hi,
Terror attacks stem from frustration and indoctrination by fundamentalists. All terror attacks are targetted at civilians and will continue to be so. In a way this terror strikes in London have bought about a radical change on two aspects:
1. It gave a feeler of how it vulnerable they are when terror strikes, to the western world.
2. In light of the origins being traced to Pakistan, it reinforces India's decade old claim of Pakistan as a major exporter and breeding ground for fundamentalists.
While watching a BBC documentary on the ban on religious symbolisms and dress code in France, I belive that this is a mighty step in the right direction. The fundamental aim of this law is to root out walls erected in the French society and to put country first before religion. Hence anything that would reveal the religious identity in public would bring the minorities at par with mainstream thereby putting the religious divide on the backburner. If this trend is successful we could see the results paying off in another 10 years. But for it to be overwhelmingly successful this should extend to whole EU.
