Nepal, the next Tibet
by s subramanyan on Feb 09, 2005 07:43 AM

While it is our top most priority to see that Nepal is protected from the Maoist onslaught, we need to counter the Chinese casting an eye on Nepal, emboldened as they are with the swallowing of Tibet. Since the 1962-era when the Nehru-Menon due misjudged Chinese intentions and made diastrous moves on the China front, leading to an ignominous defeat, we have travelled far but in our current dispensation, there is the danger of the same old mindset resricting the scvope and range of our foreign and defence policy options. Enfeebling the Maoist threat and containing the Chinese should be our priorities. We have to be careful and watch out what New Delhi is going to do.In this light, the thoughts expressed by Mr. Srinivasan would need to be coinsidered seriously by our government.
