Why was IIsc targeted?
by Anamika K on Dec 29, 2005 08:10 PM

This maybe an answer to Mr. Raman's qustion -Why did the persons responsible for Wednesday's incident target the scientists attending an international conference?

International conferences take place all over Bangalore. But my guess is, IISc was targeted because of the lax security there as is reported in the media.
The failure on the part of the people in power to
to recognize the worth of IISc, i.e. its scientists'contribution, is reason for the lack of security there. The govt has focused on the security of the IT industry in Bangalore because of the attractive and immediate returns that the IT industry brings in as well as the fat remuneration paid to its employees.
The monetary returns for contribution of IISc may not be immediate. But, if someone tries to put a figure on them, they are invaluable. Hope at least now, people will sit up give the brains of IISc and those who help them to make priceless contribution to the nation their due. And really give tight security that the people of IISc deserve.
