I read almost an identical piece by Amulya Ganguly in Deccan Chronicle. There is every reason to question the premise that reservations will alleviate supposed historical injustices. As a nation we must create better conditions for all classes of people, offer educational facilities and financial assistance and even coaching for higher education. But reserving seats indisciminately is not the solution. Mahatma Gandhi clearly wrote against curbing private enterprise, and offered the vision of Trusteeship. Does any MP remember Gandhi's words? It's sad that quoting Gandhi has become unfashionable.
Clearly the trend is to expand the scope of reservations into more areas, perhaps judiciary and armed forces. What will be the next target?
