Don't imitate others
by Stephen V. Dsouza on Dec 12, 2005 12:30 PM

Mr. CM and Co. Please don't waste your time, energy and people's money to erase history. Instead concentrate on development of the city. By changing the name of Bangalore, things only get complicated everywhere. For we Kannadigas Bangalore is Bengaluru forever, in our hearts, thoughts and in our day to day lives. Nobody can change that. For Global society we are known more as Bangaloreans and less Kannadigas. Now just think what happens if we introduce ourselves as Bengalurians? We have to explain the whole thing to them if they don't know the change. Chances are that they may think us foolish. Like this there would be many such unnecessary complications, misunderstandings. We are always proud of our state and capital. No need to show that by changing a heritage name. We have to preserve the heritage. People only laugh at our foolishness. We don't have to imitate what Bombay, Madras or Calcutta people did. What big did they achieve by changing the names. If the intention is to erase English influence then we have to stop call India as India and use Bharat or Hindustan everywhere.
So dear politicians, don't project your plans as views of the citizens. We want development.
