New foe or old enemy?
by subbaraman on Aug 25, 2005 07:34 PM

Mr.Shenoy, you are, am afraid, in the wrong. SC has been Congress Party's old enemy: consider the cases where the Congress in power sought to nullify the Supreme Court or other Court's orders. The Communal G,O. of the Madras Government was struck down by the Court: Congress Party amended the Constitution. Then, the Bank Nationalisation Act, the Privy Purse abolition law, the Shah Bano case, the decree of the Court nullifying the election of Indira Gandhi, now the attempt on IMDT, and latest the reservation in private educational institutions. More are in the offing: religion based reservations as done in Andhra Pradesh. Then the non-implementation of the latest Supreme Court Orders that loudspeakers should not be used between Ten in the nights and Six in the mornings, because nobody has any guts to stop the loud prayers being blown out even at Five in the mornings from certain religious places, where the Imams and Mullahs claim that the Supreme Court order cannot be implemented. The Hon'ble Supreme Court is more than frustrated, justifiably so, than angered. And it is these people who shout from housetops that the Court verdict would be "honoured" in the Ayodhya case!
