Legislature vs Judiciary
by Cogito_ergo... on Aug 17, 2005 08:12 AM

Our legislators, led by the redoubtable Somnath Chatterjee, cry 'murder' when the Supreme Court takes action to ensure the rule of law. At the same time, whenever the SC delivers a judgment that is not to the liking of the politicians (i.e., legislators) they try to change the law! Two egregious examples are the Shah Bano affair and the "reservation" policy.
If this trend continues, it is conceivable that one day the Parliament will pass a law abolishing the Supreme Court and all High Courts.
