mumbai.......
by prashant pandey on Aug 10, 2005 02:37 PM

First and foremost thing to be kept in mind is that in India all the problems are interrelated you cannot just develop mumbai by making some master plan and feel that the prblems will be over we have to go to the root causes. the main problem is that of migration of poor people, and they are the most badly hit during calamities like this which occoured few days back, the people living in slums, why do they migrate, why do they flock to mumbai, the reasons are obvious, in search of future, which they find gloomy in rural places, so they will keep on coming whatsoever you do, you expand mumbai to 100 kms. or more, 5 years down the line the area will get saturated. Mumbai is a land of oppurtunities and as long as people will find oppurtunities there or in any thriving metro like bangalore or hyd. these problems are bound to appear. So some insight into the root causes of problem are needed. after that many alternatives would be there like building sea links, rapid mass transit system, etc. This type of problems may be solved to some extent by relieving the burden on our metros by promoting medium cities (35 top cities of india having more than 1 M population.)
