Stop Blaming The Rains
by Shilpa on Aug 03, 2005 04:28 PM

Its sad to see what Mumbai is going thru at the moment. Never in all these years have we seen this large scale devastation in Mumbai.

But I feel besides the government, which anyway has proved its inefficiency, its the mumbaikars who also need to accept the responsibility for this. It is a well known fact that in the fight to earn our livelihood we have shown utter disrespect for the city that has given us so much. Inspite of knowing the effects of plastic bags, we still continue to use them and look what it has lead to. This is just one small example of how we have turned a blind eye to our environment.

Its equally true that what happened was very difficult to stop, but if we had shown some civic sense in the past the situation would not have been blown so much out of proportion and the plights of the affected could have been lessened to a certain extent.

I hope now that we have learned a very bitter lesson, in the future, we as citizens of this megapolis show more responsibility.

We would definitely want this city to be Shanghai but not at the cost of strangling our ecology.
