False pride
by Gautam on Aug 03, 2005 12:29 AM

Mumbaikars tend to have a sense of pride about something. Yes, it is the financial capital, home of the film industry. But, all this is the British legacy.......they thought that being a coastal area, a city could be developed, thus Bombay came into being. Post independance, the only contribution of Bombay has been Asia's largets slums, a dreaded underworld which could only have developed because of criminal-politics nexus, overcrowded local trains(for some silly reason people are very proud of 'locals' in Mumbai, just have a look at the transport system of other big cities around the world) ,communal riots, a good electricy supply only at the cost of rest of Maharashtra.
And now...the city is dreaming of being the next Shanghai!
