Rediff may please desist using such captions
by mallaiah anchoori on Jun 21, 2008 07:00 PM

Rediff may please desist from using such derogatory captions which not only belittle our great country in the eyes of other countries of the world, but also distorts the high image we otherwise have on several other fronts.I may not be mistaken as supporting high incidence of murders if I say that the figures should be seen in relation to the size of the population also.No doubt, crime rate in India could be on an increase due several social & other factors such as poverty, superstitions, laxity n law etc..,but it is very unfair to call the country as "murder capital of the world".It is better to verify the veracity of such figures more than once before flashing such sweeping news which certainly hurt the sentiments of all Indians.Further, relying on figures of 2006 & deducing some thing out of that would amount to only a craze for creation of sensation & cannot be called as good journalism. There are many other fields to cover & high light than the kind of such things.Rediff may also kindly minimise survey based reports which often lack authenticity and appropriateness.Publication of such news would also have a demoralising effect and instil a sense of avoidable fear in the minds of people. After all,all media have some social responsibilties also. They need to be careful & thoughtful about the ramifications by release of such news & so much so with such captions. There are umpteen number of good & useful topics to be covered.Press is a powerful media for moulding public opinion.
