India, murder capital.
by Suresh Bhave on Jun 22, 2008 09:44 PM

We are supposed to be a peace loving people living in the land of the Buddha, Mahavira and the Mahatama. One could say that the rate of murders per thousand population is low, but even so, the sheer number is numbing. It is the politicians who have made murder the legal currency of politics. In places such as Pune, for gaining position of power in Municipal Corporation, physical violance has become the preferred method of settling issues. It is a sad state to which, what once was a well run state, has been reduced. It is the concernted effort of politician of every hue to join in a well conceived plan to over awe the general population by naked display of ruthless power play so that the society disintegrates as a cohesive body and individuals become easy pray for the unscrupulous politicians every desire. It is the leadership of the nation that hails from the least law abiding states that is setting municipal corporation of Pimpri chinchwad, neighboring Pune is today straining to protect a corporator caught accepting bribe. Old retainers of the congress' ruling dynasty has been let off the hook on which he found himself for accepting bribe from a dictator. It is surprising that a junior clerc in govt will be suspended if he pockets a single rupee of govt fund, but a murderer cannot be suspended from contesting elections for the duration of his case. In fact, crime has become a sure ticket to lawmaking bodies. We should be proud of leading in bloodbath.
