The difference between Buddhist violence and violence by the followers is that while the scriptures of Buddhism talks about the "well being of all living things" the others talk of "fighting in the cause of god till there is only religion in the whole world"
Read the scriptures of the religions to know what it preaches rather than going by the actions of its followers.
Mahabharata and Ramayana are not "holy books" like some others claiming that their book is air-dropped by some supreme creator! The tenets of hinduism are spread in hundreds of books and no sane hindu will tell you that the contents of their books are irrefutable or for meant for the mankind for all times to come. Despite of all short-comings, hinduism is dynamic enough to change with times.
All religions have outlived their utility. So the sooner we all come out of the religious dogmas, the better for the mankind.
