My reservations ....
by Santosh on Jul 13, 2008 03:31 PM

What worries about this deal is the lack of clarity. I always had certain questions?
Why was the government keeping the deal under wraps (even taking the risk of losing power)?Okay, I buy the point that it was for preventing any reactions for anti- proliferation protestors (but difficult to digest).
I agree this deal would solve our power needs (or will it?) How fast will we see the effects of this deal? Immediately …? Or after 10 to 20 years? What about our current needs?
The government is marketing the benefits of the deal. But, it does talk of any compromises that have been made or even the risks that are foreseen. Is US is so happy with us that it is giving us a free gift? In this materialistic world, there can never be free lunches. How is US benefitting from this?
After having an inkling of how US pushes for its agreements by having agents in foreign offices like PMO or NSA. I would want to be amply sure this is not one of those cases. Is there any individual or Office or Party who would take the responsibility of consequences (not just the credit) of this deal? Or we would have to rue about a failed foreign policy decision for a long time to come
Please don’t tag me as a commie or BJP@#*. I am just an ordinary Indian citizen who wants to gets his doubts clarified.
The deal in its content certainly looks attractive.
Please do comment if my fears are baseless.
