Dear Ms Chandrika, Islam was founded in the 6th Century AD and had considered many things of those times (same as Sikhism in 15-16th Century, Christianity during Christ and Hinduism even earlier). There is no sense debating those things in 21st Century. If Mr. A does something don't blame his religion for that. It could be his circumstances that made him do so. There were many small tribes worshipping different deities and fighting each other with lots of evils in society. Islam called for unity and said that there is only one almighty and that is Allah. Most of the things in Holy Quran is in the context of those times (women wearing hijab, not taking interest on money, not taking wine, brotherhood etc.). Fighting the non-believers meant those who did not believe in Allah (the only Almighty) and not so many tribes with one separate deity each resulting in brutal fighting each other etc. was jihad. Besides in those days, might was right everywhere. King Ashoka, Alexander were not Muslims. Kingdoms hatched conspiracy against each other, irrespective of religions. Hindu religion too has a number of debatable customs...you know what is Sati ? In north & west India, children (only Hindu) are married at age as little as 3 and 4 (carried by their parents in baskets)(search Akshya Teej in Rajasthan / MP etc.) Upper caste hindus exploited / tortured poor human beings on basis of their Yoni (SC/ST/OBS etc.)for centuries. Now it is like how you see a glass, half full or half empty.
