Your writing is a bit interesting.
Any book on india without its spritualism as a way of life of ordinary indian shall be worthless.
India's strength is its sprituality. That is the reason Mahatma Gandhi was born here and explains why Lord Buddha,Lord Mahavira or Lord Krishna takes birth here. Why for example
the recent one Osama bin Laden was not born here? Why Mahatma Gandhi?
Why Lord Buddha was born here why not Adolf Hitler and why not a Mao setung or a Mussolini?
Why a book like "In search of secreat India" sells like hot cake even after so many years after its publication? The book was written by a journalist from England during the British Raj and shows how India is very spritual and how people, who could be very well mistaken as a common man in India may turn out to be an extrordinary man of spritual powers unbelievable to any westerner. When you read the book you would immediately say "how incredible is India?" but when Paul Brunton wrote it, there was no slogan like "incredible India" by tourism department because it was the British Raj and it was telling the whole world that uncivilized Indians have been taught civilization and that had been their "white man's burden".
British taught us how to be corrupt and smoking (there was no tobacco in India before British Raj)etc.,
I am yet to read Shoba De 's book.
The one thing we should appreciate about her is that at age 61 she has a great zest for life ,feels young and her voice very sincere.
