Hogenakkal Issue
by jegadeesan durai on Apr 09, 2008 08:09 AM

Hogenakkal falls lies in the two state borders and it is accesible by road from Dharmapuri in TN which is nearly 170 km from Bangalore. The other end of the falls is KN border [Kollegal]which does not have good access and no public transport exists. Everyone enters from TN side by bus/car to see the tourist. There is a 700 acres land in the falls which KN is claiming now its land. All tourists are entering from TN side which KN is not able to stomach. They should have made good road & infrastructure from their side if they are really serious about this instead of simply opposing a drinking water project. When it was agreed in 1998 both the states were aware of this then why KN wants to reopen the closed case ? If the border disputes are reopened it is endless
As per the international border regualtions both the states own land here. But KN is not going to use this land for anything as it did not bother to develop roads etc there and they just want to oppose the project since it will benefit TN with narrow mind. They are not going to do anything there and TN will use 1.4 tmc of water from its share. Karnataka simply wants to stall this project by giving some lame reasons.
