Ho ho ho! This article makes a valiant attempt at protecting critics. What are they exactly? A boon to movie goers who want to be forewarned about a movie? But are they to ALL movie goers? As the writer rightly pointed out, each one is entitled to his own opinion.... about a movie! Therefore one may like a movie, which others may dont like and that too in varying degrees.
Each person is a product of his/her own biases and so is a critic. Airing a view openly about a movie, which affects the film's collection is debatable. After all, after a movie is made, and it flops, nothing can be salvaged. In a brick and mortar company, you can still recover some assets like land, plant & machinery, etc. In case of a movie, all the money is lost. Spare a thot for the producers.
Critics should be allowed to air their views only after atleast one week of the movie's release. That way the movie (if its a bad one)can make atleast some money from the first week through smart advertising.
What does the writer mean that critics view movies every friday day in and day out, blah blah...Come out of it. Its just three hours in one whole week. It doesnt get better than this.
As I said, critics should not be allowed to write about a movie for atleast one week, after the movie is released! Period
