When RK made Mera Naam Joker(MNJ), he had great expectations from it but the movie flopped at box office. It had the plot, it had beautiful songs, it had good acting, yet it did not appeal to the public at that time. Raj Kapoor took this to heart and came out with Bobby with two new comers to launch his son Rishi Kapoor (who was in Mera Naam Joker as child artist) and Dimple Kapadia.
