We accept it all right. We accept that it is an assault on our senses and logic. We accept that it mirrors nothing about the society we live in or ask any profound questions about our country. The point is, Good Bad and Ugly, Ten Commandments etc are movies made in the 50-60s. Our cinema is stuck in that era. Naseruddin Shah is absolutely right. Our movies are ridiculous. There's nothing to be proud of a literal family business where each person sucks up to the other family and creativity is non-existant.
Look at European cinema, Brazilian cinema, even hollywood (not superman/spiderman variety but like Godfather, shawshank redemption etc). Memento is a brilliant film with a very, very simple plot line that could be summed up in a para shorter that what I've typed here. And yet it is such a riveting film. Reason? Chris Nolan is a talented director. Cant say the same about the likes of Karan Johar and Yash Chopra.
