We are still a developing nation
by Aroop Dhar on May 04, 2008 11:39 AM

Irrespective of being one of the causes of world food shortage (as highlighted by US President Bush), India still has low incomes, and lower employment potential. It has developed as an offshore hub, but the majority of the high end work gets done in the west. It is not just the charm of a quality life that attracts educated professionals abroad, but the opportunity to do something worthwhile that matches their education and aptitude.

There is a lot of potential in India, but certain industries have not matured yet. Till they do, the high growth rate will be coupled with high exploitation, attrition, shakeouts, artificial resistances and the like.

The situations mentioned in the well researched article may spell gloom, but things are set to improve. One needs to wait till then.
