RE:Parents To Blame
by Arpan Roy on May 01, 2008 01:32 PM

In US and Europe, even hawkers, coolies, labourers and workers are well paid and you find your maid servant coming to your house in his/her car. These are developed nations, they have a strong economy and so there is dignity of labour. Even a labourer can eke out an existence with the salary he receives.

Do you mean to say that parents in India should inspire their children and encourage them to be labourers and workers?? Can a hawker or waiter at a Dhaba lead a decent life in India ??Can you compare a roadside Dhaba with a posh McDonalds? IIM-A is charging Rs. 11.5 lakhs for a two year MBA program and private B-schools charge even more sometimes. You mean to say that after parents invest the amount they would be happy if their next generation get a door-to-door sales job, which is NOT a dignified job in a third world country. You can blame the government for having poor work culture and doing nothing about labourer unions but you can't blame the parents. A child has to use his fullest potential to crack competitive exams as it is the survival of the fittest. Parents need to show their children the consequences of avoiding studies. Otherwise, from a very young age we will find children aiming to be a coolie or a hawker or a sweeper as any profession respects dignity of work (and such professions dont demand academic proficiency).
