RE:Industrialization of Bengal
by Rama Ganesh on Jun 11, 2008 07:56 PM

It's always easy to blame others for our mistakes and what I said about the commies, caste-less society in bengal was purely in that context. I never said commies have made Bengal caste-less. What I meant was "atleast they didn't do anything to disturb the status-quo in Bengal" even if they indulged in reservation or minorityism elsewhere in the country. To that extent, commies have played ball with a caste-less bengal. It is true that bengal has produced great thinkers and revolutionaries like Raja Rammohun Roy, Vivekananda, etc. But of what use is talking about the past when we live in the present. I love Bengal as much as any other Bengali but I am really saddened by the ills confronting the society in Bengal today. And I repeat, blaming it on the commies alone would be too simplistic. After all, who voted the commies to power repeatedly? It's only people of bengal and they have only themselves to blame for the plight they are in.
