Magic needs to be encouraged in India
by mallaiah anchoori on Jul 16, 2008 04:39 AM

In India, magic is not taken as a profession by many;there very few magicians like P.C Sarkar,B.V Pattabhiram etc who chose it as their full time profession and shined in it.It is just taken as a pastime to entertain people n group gatherings, public functions, religious celebrations, sociial functions etc and is taken lightly-not on par with a show of any other talents-say music or dance. The reason could be lack of govermnmental patronage and specific proficiency courses offered in any of the insitutes of fine arts although it is an intelligent art requiring utmost dexterity & nimbleness of hands to be achieved by lot of pratice.Unlike in India,in western countries like USA where every good talent-whether academic or otherwise is encouraged, nurtured to the heights of its perfection, magic is considered as a very good fine art with due recognition.I was feeling wonder struck when my US born little grand son of just 10 years old was playing all the tricks of the magic he leant in one of the summer camps on me so well that I could not belive my eyes.A magician neither creates any thing nor destroys, but makes the audience swim in a world of fantasy by showing a reality as myth & vice versa.Of late, adding an element of mesmerism to it,magicians like B.V Pattabhiram are also using it as therapy to cure psychiatric problems.Magic, however,is not to be mistaken as part of black magic which is nothing but witch craft diabolically used for the bad of people by propitiating evil gods.
