So many people in urban areas think that India is mired in poverty in rural areas while only a few cities are growing at a faster rate. While rural poverty is a realty it is not in the state as depicted by some. Look at the vehicles purchased (two wheelers) in villages including tractors purchased. Look at the cell phones these villagers are using. See the type of education they could offord now.
In a word I can say that number of people deep poverty has been greately reduced. The lifestyle of small farmers changed.
You can not say India is at the same situation as it was just 10 years ago.
The money that has been coming in to the country from software, from expatriates working in the gulf countries,USA and Europe tremendously increased. It has gone beyod anyones imagination.
Those people who say that opportunities are held hostage by forward casts should look at their colleagues in the office ! who are they? For example I could see most of my colleagues (software) come from such casts as agricultural labour, fishermen, weavers and Muslims.
Casts of landlords, warrior casts and tribes, brahmins are so less that I have to search for them and to my surprise most of them (earlier landlords for example)are found among drivers, bus conductors, taxi men, poultry farm owners or cleaners. Brhamis among software are there but insigficant comapred to that so called lower casts or BC. Poverty's basics are changed. India is changed. don't speak old rheterics.
