PhD is only a recognition of a persons total knowledge, dedication and devotion to the subject. it takes anything between 4 to 8 yrs to get one after a masters degeree.most indians get it only towards their mid 40s, that too after a great struggle.there is hardly any incentive to get one.it is true that non PhDs do better in corporate life at times.after getting a doctrate, people teach, work, write papers, conduct seminars, assist as guide, do research, and write books.it is not that they sit at home and while away their time.all these activities add value to a person.we need to encourage students to get a doctrate, and get involved in teaching and research.keeping a time frame maynot be a good idea for PhDs
