while ur points are truly noteworthy, do you actually know that the cost of production of petrol for eg is only Rs 18 per litre? This one litre of petrol comes to the common man at Rs 52/- per litre today. The balance amount od Rs 33/- per litre is made up of all sorts of taxes. In effect the tax part is far more than the cost of the product. If the taxes are rationalized, there wont be any need of subsidy as also the cost to the comon man would be less.
